Harry Potter Expo

A couple of months ago I went to the Harry Potter Expo in Utrecht a place in the Netherlands. When I found out that there would be an expo I was over the moon. I really wanted to go and after a while I finally went. I went with my sister and her fiancé.

15

We’ve seen the entrance of the Gryffindor common room with the Fat Lady. When the expo started, this was practically the first thing you saw. And the painting was actually a film playing instead of just a photo.

21

In the same place were some Gryffindor uniforms and amazing to see, the golden egg that was used in the fourth film of Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the goblet of fire.

44

After seeing the egg we came upon the Marauders Map. It was very cool to see how much paper it actually was.

We also saw lots of costumes. Here you can see two of them, but there were a lot.

We also saw some Chess pieces, the Nimbus 2000 and 2001 and the Sword of Gryffindor. You had a room that was calles the forbidden forest and there you saw the Chess pieces. And there was also a room that was in the theme of Quidditch and there you could see the brooms and last bus not least there was a room where they had the Sword of Gryffindor.

101

In the forbidden forest you could also see the horcruxes. It was amazing to see them all together like that.

131

Probably in every room you went there was a wand. Pretty much al the wands were on display to see.

141

In the last room where a lot of different things. costumes, stuff from Weasley Wizard Wheezes, wands and a lot more. One thing that you also could see there was Dobby. It was weird but also pretty amazing to see.

There was a lot more. But I do not want to give too much away. Maybe you are still going or maybe you want to  go now that you’ve seen it. I hope that when you like Harry Potter as much as I do, you’ll make the time to go, because it is worth it! It really is!

Harry Potter tag Part one

People that know me really well, know that I absolutely LOVE the Harry Potter books and films. So when I found the Harry Potter tag I immediately thought it would be a perfect tag for my blog. The tag itself was a bit long so I decided to make a one and a part two. Also staying in the spirit of Potter with the last to films. So here it goes, part one!hp_2.png

ϟ What is your favorite book?

That is already a hard question, because first of all they are all really good. Second thing is that it is a while ago that I read the books, because I need to read a lot of children’s books for college. So at this moment I can not give you a good answer to that. But if I need to choose right now I would choose Harry Potter and the Halfblood prince, because I really like the development of the story. It is really the beginning of the end. And all the characters are developing more as well.

There will be a Book club Blog in the future, where I will tell let you see some books that I love. I will defiantly put my favorite HP book in it.

ϟ What is your favorite film?

My favorite film is Harry Potter and the Halfblood prince. I really like this film because you get the feeling that the end is coming. That the war is going to really start and I like that feeling, that adrenaline rush that you get from it. It is also the film where you see a lot more emotion by the characters and I really like that, because that makes you change your mind about some of the characters. So yeah Halfblood prince it is.

ϟ Less favorite book?

My less favorite book would be Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban if I needed to choose now. I also have it with the films, that that one is my least favorite. It is only because of the end, because in my opinion the end get a bit wordy. I just do not like the part when they go back in time. Because of that it is a less favorite book of mine.

ϟ Books or parts of the books that made you cry?

I do not actually have a part in Harry Potter that made me cry to be honest. I only got a bit of ‘watery’ eyes when you finally find out that Draco Malfoy needs to do things he really doesn’t want to. I personally wouldn’t have coped with the stress it gave him. So I have empathy for that.

ϟ If you could have a relationship with one of the Harry Potter characters, who would it be?

It maybe sounds weird, but I would want to have a relationship with Draco Malfoy. Firstly, because I think he deserves a bit more love in his life. In the end of the film series you see a totally different person develop. Someone who isn’t bad at all and just wants to have a normal life. And I actually admire that. I think that there is an awesome personality behind the mask he has. And of course also because of look. You can say a lot about him, but you can’t deny that Draco Malfoy is a handsome man Smirking Face Emoji (Apple/iOS Version).

ϟ Favorite character?

Well that questions must have been answered with the previous question. Can’t deny it my favorite character is Draco Malfoy, because his change in behaviour is the biggest and the best in my opinion.

ϟ Less favorite character?

I don’t have to think about that one for long. Defiantly Umbridge. I’d rather have her die then Voldemort and that is a true meaning. She is such an evil character that comes away with literally everything. I really hated her through the books and films. She is the example of pure evil. Umbridge needs to go.

ϟ What would be your Patronus?

I literally wouldn’t know. But if I look at my own personality I would say a snake. I am a pretty quiet person, but when people do something I do not like or say things that aren’t true, I will be going at them and sometimes a bit to cruel. I think a snake does the same thing. If you do something a snake doesn’t like it will get you. Plus the fact that there are aggressive and non-aggressive snakes and I think I am a mixture between both. So I think in that way a snake, but I am not completely sure.

ϟ If you could have the resurrection stone, invisibility cloak or the elder wand, which one would you choose?

I would choose the elder wand. I never liked the resurrection stone and I am not a really big fan of the invisibility cloak to be honest. I would love to have a wand that is super powerful. The feeling you will get of total saveness gives me a soothing feeling.

That was part one of the Harry Potter hope you liked it!

For now I sign off.

The tales of Beedle the Bard

The tales of Beedle the Bard is a book that emerged in the book and films of Harry Potter.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard contains five richly diverse fairy tales, each with its own magical
character, that will variously bring delight, laughter and the thrill of mortal peril. (Back of the book).0747599876_t.jpg

This book contains, as already said, five unique tales. After every story there is a note written by Albus Dumbledore. That way the story itself gets more meaning than just the story. You learn things about them you never would have if there weren’t these notes at the end.

There are also sometimes footnotes by J.K. Rowling herself if there is a specific word or sentence that needs some explaining to understand.

I got this book for my birthday from some of my friends because I asked for it. I saw it on the internet once and I was intrigued by it. Ofcourse there is the tale everyone knows from the books or the films but the other ones also looked as a fun thing to read.

The book itself is about 110 pages. So it is not a really large book. I firstly thought that it was a book that didn’t need so much attention to understand what you were reading, because it are and will always stay fairy tales. But when I was reading it I found out that indeed the tales itself weren’t that difficult to read. But the notes from Rowling and Dumbledore needs some extra attention and therefore the whole story needs more attention to. But that does not take the fun of the reading away from it. It is a book that even people who do not like Harry Potter could read. Because the tales self are not at all related to Harry Potter. They are just random tales like we have with The sleeping beauty, The little mermaid etc.

The book has five different tales.

  1. The wizard and the hopping pot
  2. The fountain of fair fortune
  3. The warlock’s hairy heart
  4. Babbitty Rabbitty and her cackling stump
  5. The tale of the three brothers

I personally think, even if it is a bit cliché, that the tale of the three brothers is the best and most amazing tale in the book. But I also enjoyed The warlock’s hairy heart tale. The other three are on the same level in my opinion.

I don’t know exactly why I like the tales of the three bothers the most. All I know is that, that tale has something so meaningful that it is a great tale to learn something from.

It is a great book to read after you have read the Harry Potter books. That is if you want to understand a bit of the notes after the tales. But if you just read the tales it is a great book for everyone. Even if you haven’t read Harry Potter.

I would really recommend this book, because it brings you a new kind of magic.

Harry Potter and the cursed child

Harry Potter and the cursed child is a new addition to the Harry Potter series.Harry_Potter_and_the_Cursed_Child_Special_Rehearsal_Edition_Book_Cover.jpg

The eighth story. Nineteen years later…

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier not that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and a father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and sun learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

First I was a bit hesitant about the book/play. There were a lot of mixed opinions about it, but the majority of the reviews I have read said that is was a good book for a true Harry Potter fan. I wouldn’t say that I am a ‘fan’ of Harry Potter, but I highly enjoy the story of Harry Potter.

There were also some words about the contents of the story itself. It was not as profound as the other books, which would make it less enjoyable to read.

After reading lots of reviews I couldn’t actually make up if the story was good or not so I thought I would buy the book myself and read it to give my own opinion.

First of all I think that the book has a nice cover. I have a hardbook cover and over the hardbook cover is another paper cover as you have with loads of books. The paper cover around it is, in my opinion, a nice layout. It is not as magical as the other book cover from Harry Potter that I have, but with this book it is not disappointing. If you take the paper cover from the book, the hardcover from the book itself is black with the ‘symbol’ of the paper cover on the front and of the side of the book. On the side you will also have the title from the book and the writers. Everything on the hardcover itself is printed in shiny gold.

I like that they made a book out of it with the play within. I think it gives you the feeling of reading a book, reading a story, when you are actually reading a script from a play.

As I just said it is a play that you read not an actual book story. You see the name and that the sentence that will be said by that character. Through the play there are also lots of part that are in italic. Those parts will give you an imagination of the place they are or what is happening. For example: Scorpius appears at the back of the stage. He looks at his friend talking to a girl – and part of him like it and part of him doesn’t.

With the italic sentences you can make and imagination which makes it easier to follow the story and the emotions that the characters have. With those lines into it, it was really easy for me to actually read it a book story instead of a script from a play.

I must admit that there isn’t as much depth in the book as you will have in the Harry Potter series, but that is logical. The Harry Potter series are pretty thick books and there are seven of them. It is more than logical that Harry Potter and the cursed child is les profound than the Harry Potter series.

I really like the story. It is a story with 330 pages and I read it within two days. I think it is nice to see old characters again and meet new ones. I also think the story itself is really good and you will see the magical world in a totally different way. It will let you see that things can change over time and that not everything in life will be perfect even if you have a nice and quiet life compared to the past. I think that it is a nice addition to the series and I like that it is  a sort of continuation of where they left us at the and of Harry Potter and the Deathly hallows.

I think it is worth the buy and I also think that this book is nice for everyone that has read the Harry Potter books. If you are not going into it with a mind that it will be as profound as the story through the other seven books I am pretty sure that will you will like the story.

It is defiantly worth the read.

For now I sign off.

Series and Films: Films

Last week I let you see a couple of series that I love to watch. This week I’m going to do the exact same, but now with films.

In my blog of last week, I already had told, that I am not so much a series watcher. I like films better. And it was really hard to filter the best movies out of all the movies I have watched in my life. So I made a small list of films.

  1. Harry Potter films
  2. Against the sun
  3. The fault in our stars
  4. Nicolas Sparks films
  5. Classics.

harry-potter-logoSo starting with number one. The Harry Potter films. No need to explain what it is about, because everyone probably knows what Harry Potter is.I totally love Harry Potter. Love the books and love the films. I think the storyline through all the books and films are so well written that it is always fun to watch and read again. All the characters, creatures, magic and big imagination that you get from and with Harry Potter is something you do not get often. And I am kind of obsessed with the books and films. Personally I think that the last three films are having the best storyline and I think Harry Potter and the Halfblood prince is the best book and film. But I also think that the first film and book have something special, because that is the first time you meet with the magic and the characters etc. My mom always sais that, that is her favorite because that is really the magic film. But personally I think that Halfblood Prince wins it from the rest. I always have like the character Draco Malfoy. In the Halfblood Prince you see a totally new side of him. And I think that that makes the film a lot more interesting. So yeah, Harry Potter.

The second on my little list is Against the sun. Against the sun is based on a true story. Three US Navy airmen crash-land their torpedo bomber in the South Pacific during World War II and find themselves on a tiny life raft, surrounded by open ocean. No food. No water. No hope of rescue. Against incredible odds, these three virtual strangers must survive storms, sharks, starvation – and each other – as they try to sail more than a thousand miles to safety. I think this film makes itself special, because it is based on a true story. But it is also a kind of film that I had never seen before. You only have three main characters that you see through the whole film and only them. There is one more character in the film, but that is only in two scenes, the rest is only those three characters. Normally you would think that will get boring, especially because most of the film is on sea on a little raft with only those three characters. But it is actually a really fascinating story. Even if you do not like real story based movies or World War II movies, I would still recommend you to go and watch it, because it is a kind of film you’ve probably never have seen before and therefore worth the time to watch it. Against the sun. (Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhd4cmquoSc).

the-fault-in-our-stars-2014_091757413.jpg

Number three. The fault in our stars. It is a films based of John Green his book The fault in our stars. Two teenage cancer patients begin a life-affirming journey to visit a reclusive author in Amsterdam. Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. First of all it is a good book and film, because it let us see that not everything in life is a fairytale. But is also let us see, true friendships/relationships, fun, sadness, hope and a lot more. The film is a rollercoaster of emotions and therefore a good movie to watch when you have totally nothing to do and are up for a journey through emotions. Another little fact why I like it is because there are scenes in and going about the Netherlands and since I live in the Netherlands and you not see often that the Netherlands is chosen as a place to go it makes the film and book a bit more special and fun to watch and read. This film is the only film where I let some tears fall. That had never happened before and by this film I couldn’t hold it in. I was glad I was watching it alone. The fault in our stars. (Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ItBvH5J6ss).

Then the Nicolas Sparks films. I can be quit quick about them. Their drama/romance films. The typical films almost every girl loves to watch and almost every boy wants to avoid. There full of love and drama. A couple of titles are:

  1. The Notebook (Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC6biTjEyZw)
  2. The last Song (Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Bmuzr8K5ak)
  3. The lucky one (Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKqaiQZdv3c)
  4. Dear John (Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcoz__uLDB8)

Nicolas Sparks Films

Last but not least some classics. Films probably everyone has seen or has heard of. Grease and The sound of music. I love those two films. There already pretty old, but those two are films that you are never bored of to watch. You watch it and then let them for a long time and then you watch it again. I think I like these to so much because there is acting and a lot of singing in them and I like that . I do not know a lot to say about them other than if you have never watched them you should because these classics are worth the watch. Two totally different films, but both amazing and enjoyable to watch. The sound of music and Grease.

For now I sign off.
